I was able to attend a day long conference in Salt Lake City called the NAME (National Association of Multicultural Education) Conference. While this conference was not directly related to Theatre, I was able to pick up on many important things that I need to be aware of when teaching diverse students.
Many of the workshops I attended within that conference sparked many ideas of what I can do in my own Theatre classroom. Such as a unit on “What’s My Story?” in which my students will explore who they are through writing activities which lead to a personal story; which could then form into a monologue with music in the back ground that they feel defines them. Another idea I really liked was the importance of color and exploring what colors mean, what they represent and what story we try to tell with particular colors. I’ve included my notes from the NAME conference in the space below.
