Student Teaching Productions 2018
When I began my student teaching at Box Elder High School, the two productions that I helped to direct had already been cast and were in the initial stages of rehearsal.
The Crucible
Since The Crucible was double cast, our first rehearsals were paced a little slower as we had to take twice the amount of time to block. But once the actors were comfortable on their feet, Melanie Day and I were able to divide and conquer. Each day, we would work with different casts to help actors to discover and uncover their characters.
Personally, the characterization part of rehearsal is my favorite. I love helping students make discoveries and talking through their characters with them. This play proved to be a rich and growing experience for me as I further discovered my own directing style and watched a seasoned teacher direct her students.

Vampires Are Our Friends
This production was put on by the Theatre III class of over 60 students. Melanie triple cast her play in order to give each student a full experience and enlisted the help of two seniors to student direct the other two casts. This way, I was able to direct the third cast and help them to discover self-confidence and big, bold choice making.
Since this play is a courtroom drama, my focus was to help students make big and bold choices that were appropriate for their characters. As we did various warm ups and exercises, it was exciting to see students leave behind their inhibitions and "go big" with making character choices.
